FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chisasibi, Qc – August 7, 2024 – Members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force of the Chisasibi detachment received a call in the morning of August 7th, 2024 concerning an armed male individual.
Our staff responded to the call with all resources available and made their efforts to create a safe environment for the community by securing and negotiating with the armed individual. After an extended period, the suspect surrendered and was treated for medical assessment. Other details will follow upon his charges and court appearance.
We would like to remind all communities and its members to safely store all firearms and ammunition. If you don’t have any trigger locks or gun cabinets, please refrain from keeping your firearms easily accessible in your homes.
Note that anyone charged with a firearm offence, in most cases, will have a restriction to possess or own a firearm for a period of ten years. Our firearms are used in our practices of our traditions for hunting and providing for our families. We must practice and store them as safely as we can.
