FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mistissini, Qc– April 19, 2024– Members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force of the Mistissini
detachment responded to a call received at approximately 1:15 a.m. on April 19, 2024
regarding an individual that was reported intoxicated and walking in the middle of the access
road.
While responding to the call, an accident occurred where first responders and ambulance
were requested.
The individual was transported by ambulance to the local clinic where they were later
pronounced deceased.
With the assistance of the Sûreté du Québec and the local fire department, the scene was
immediately protected.
The Eeyou Eenou Police Force and the Sûreté du Québec informed the Bureau des Enquêtes
Indépendantes (BEI) of the events that occurred. This is the procedure when a person, other
than a police officer on-duty, dies or suffers a serious injury during a police intervention or
detention by police force.
The EEPF and SQ are collaborating with the BEI to ensure cooperation in their investigation.
Furthermore, the Eeyou Eenou Police Force would like to express our sincere condolences to
the immediate families of this tragic loss.
