Eeyou Eenou Police Force held its first Exemplary Service Awards Ceremony on September 6th, 2024 in Chisasibi. An initiative by the police commission, we honoured officers that served our communities, having gone above and beyond the call of duty. In the order they were presented: Valour Award was given to EEPF Officer Johnny Kawapit. The Distinguished Service Award was presented to Late Officer Eric Benac, accepted by his son and wife, Hayden Benac and Linda L Shecapio. A second Valour Award was presented to EEPF’s Inv. Derek St-Cyr, Former EEPF Officer Sylvain Proulx and Late Officer Charlie Gunner, accepted by his wife Rachel MacLeod. The award for Meritorious Service recipient is former EEPF Officer Joey Odjick. He was not able to join us for the event, EEPF Director Shannon Nakogee accepted the award on his behalf. We would like to thank everyone that submitted nominations and shared their stories with us. We also would like to thank Chief Daisy House, our EEPF police commissioners and everyone who participated in the event.
