Press Release – Waswanipi Qc, April 10, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Waswanipi, Qc – April 10, 2025 – On Wednesday April 9th, at around 20h45 the EEPF Call Dispatch Center received a call concerning an armed person roaming the streets in Waswanipi.

EEPF patrol officers along with members of the Sûreté du Québec gathered together to conduct the search of a possible armed person within the community. After extensive search of the area, there was no armed or injured person found.

As officers collected information about the individuals possibly involved, it was later determined that this was a false report.

False reports as this one deter officers from regular duties, puts the community at high risk and are considered Public Mischief under the Criminal code of Canada.

“Public mischief. 140 (1) Every one commits public mischief who, with intent to mislead, causes a peace officer to enter on or continue an investigation by (a) making a false statement that accuses some other person of having committed an offence.”

We ask parents and guardians to please inform your children and grandchildren on the proper use of the Call Dispatch Center and the consequences of calling in false reports.

Thank-you to all community members for the continued collaboration and raising awareness on the matter.
